About the Book This book incorporates several dimensions of nutrition in community health management including technical, scientific, statistical aspects and techniques of community involvement and inter-sectoral coordination. The purpose of this book is to disseminate basic information about food and nutrition to the health professionals especially programme managers, grass root workers, NGOs and general readers.

About the Authors Dr. Y.L. Tekhre is working as a Senior Faculty in the Department of Social Sciences, National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi. He was conferred upon with Ph.D. in Sociology from Rani Durgawati University, Jabalpur. He also holds LL-B, P.G. Diploma in Public Administration, in addition to having done his Diploma in Journalism.

He has an expertise in planning, organization & implementation of projects, field studies related to health, medical care & population stabilization. He also has distinguished himself as investigator in a number of research training programmes. He is regularly involved in conducting training/workshops/conferences at National & International level in the health and related issues. His contributions to the leading scientific journals have always been appreciated amongst the intelligentsia. He has been guiding & co- supervising M.D. (CHA) students for the last so many years. He has participated in short training course in 'Participatory Rapid Appraisals for Management of Health Nutrition & Family Planning at London School of Tropical Medicine, U.K. He also attended a short course on 'Qualitative and Quantitative Approach in Health Systems Research' organized by WHO at Myanmar. His other publications are- Encyclopaedia of AIDS & Family Education; Vivid Yaun Viyavhar (Hindi).

Surendra Pratap Singh is a Master's degree holder having done his M.Sc in Bio-Science from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi in 1993, He wrote for newspapers and magazines on issues related to general science, health and environment for a stretch of six- years since 1994. His sphere of activities consists of social welfare and social activities. He was associated with Saaol Health & Research Foundation as Programme Coordinator, for a year (1997). He also renders his services to an NGO, Bhartiya Jana Vikas Parishad (Regd.) as Youth Coordinator on an honorary basis from time to time.

He regularly participated in campaigns for health and environmental awareness and is recipient of Commendation Letter from the Government of NCT of Delhi for a campaign- against Smoking (1998). He was honoured by the Delhi Government with Navodit Lekhak Puraskar (Neo-Writer's award) for the year 1998-99. He is a regular at conferences, symposia, exhibitions & literary workshops on AIDS, Health & Environment

His other publications are: Health and Environmental Consciousness; Sex Education, AIDS and Sexuality; Dictionary of Ecology and Environment, Criminology, Nutrition & Dietetics; Concise Glossary of Family Health, Plastic Waste Management, Variant Sexual Behaviour.

Foreword The book on Nutrition in Community Health Management written by Dr. Y.L.Tekhre and Mr. S.P. Singh is a pioneering work meant not only for popular reading but also for health management professionals and para-professionals as a key book for day to day reference. The authors have meticulously planned, selected and organized different chapters of the book in such a way that a reader will not feel satisfied if he/she will not read the subsequent chapter and finally finish it.
