Jaya Mehta is a multi-media artiste who connects the entire spectrum of Indian arts, by creating a rich fabric of performances, workshops, books and articles on Indian dance and culture. She has imbibed the Guru Surendra Nath Jena tradition of Odissi from her Guru Pratibha Jena Singh.
As a mother of two children and dance educator, she has created pioneering, multi-disciplinary Indian culture workshops like "Mum, ME and Odissi and the "Discover INDIA workshops for children.
Her much acclaimed book of dance-poems, 'The Poetic Saree', and its dance production, The Boulder Being", has premiered at prestigious international venues like The Nehru Centre in London. She has performed her poetry and Odissi at The International Poetry festival in Rotterdam, The India Dans Festival in the Hague. The Centre Mandapa in Paris, the Arma Museum in Bali and the Gandhi Centre in Hague. She was felicitated with the Odissi Jyoti' award at the International Odissi festival in Bhubhaneshwar.
Her writings on Indian art and culture have been published in The Guardian, The Times of India, The Hindustan Times and The Economic Times. She enjoys curating her chat show, "laya Mehta Talks about the joys of creativity and well being.
