The Centre of Advanced Study in Sanskrit was established in 1964 as a National Training Centre to train scholars, to carry on higher research and to achieve international standard in various branches of Sanskrit learning and research. During the last 25 years the Centre has definitely come upto the expectations and it has trained quite a sizable number of scholars in India and abroad, it has brought out quite a good number of valuable research publications in Veda, Vyskarana and Navya Nyaya and it has certainly established academic relations with almost all the prominent Institutions engaged in teaching and research in the field of Indology throughout the globe Any plan for future development requires a critical assessment of the work already done and a direction for future work. The first is achieved through critical survey of research already done and the second is achieved through the identification of new vistas in the respective field. The first requires considerable amount of time because as the first step towards the goal what is absolutely necessary is to prepare exhaustive Bibliographies for each of the disciplines of Sanskrit and then alone the entical survey may be attempted. This process of assessment of research already done will take a lot of time Till we achieve this goal, it was, therefore, decided to approach scholars, in this silver Jubilee year, who have already established themselves in a particular field of Indology, for research papers indicating the areas which remain to be undertaken for future research. The present Volume is an outcome of this thinking. We are confident, the Volume will work as a guide to scholars who are genuinely interested in exploring new areas of research in Indology The articles in this Volume are from authorities in respective fields who have spent their whole academic career in discovering the truth in their particular disciplines I am confident that the Volume will show the path which will lead a traveller to a higher plane.
