Book Description
About the Book
The third revised edition of 'New Discoveries About Vedic Sarasvati' has many new features. It has been supplied with maps depicting various flows of Sarasvati in various phases right from the Vedic period down to the Mahabharata period as described in the vast Vedic and post Vedic literature. The earlier editions were devoid of this feature. Hope this third revised edition will help readers and researchers to understand the various misconc- eptions about Vedic Sarasvati. This work would also help the archaeologists, historians and other scholars interested in the study of Vedic Sarasvati to formulate their views and theories on the origin and evolution of Vedic Sarasvati as per the description of Sarasvati available in the Vedic and post Vedic Sanskrit literature. Since Sarasvati is purely a Vedic concept and as such no one has the moral right to make surmises and postulate imaginary theories without their assumptions being supported by the relevant Vedic and Pauranika records. It is also fervently hoped that the publication of this third revised edition would help the readers and scholars to develop a view of Vedic Sarasvati in right and proper perspective.

Foreword
It gives me a great pleasure that the much awaited work of Dr. Ravi Prakash Arya on the legendary Vedic Sarasvati is before the readers and the scholars. The author has for the first time presented a systematic study of various flows of Sarasvati in various phases right from the Vedic down to the Mahabharata period as described in the vast Vedic and post Vedic literature. In fact, such an academic study of Sarasvati as the present one has long been a desideratum. Though there are many publication available in the market on Sarasvati, but they all have been written with the assumptions that modern day tracks of Märkanda and Ghaggar represent the remnants of old Vedic Sarasvati. This type of research gives a wrong information about the varius flows of Sarasvati as depicted in the Vedic and Pauranika literature. With the publication of the present title "New Discoveries about Vedic Sarasvati' a long felt ardent need has been fulfilled. Much to the satisfaction of the readers and the scholars of Vedas, History and Archaeology, the present work is most original one accomplished at the hands of a Vedic scholar of Dr. Ravi Prakash Arya's calibre and fame. This work would certainly set aside the various unfounded notions and ill-conceived assumptions, filmsy suppositions regarding the various origins and flows of perennial Vedic Sarasvati. This work would help the archaeologists, historians and other scholars interested in the study of Vedic Sarasvati to formulate their views and theories on the origin and evolution of Vedic Sarasvati as per the description of Sarasvati available in the Vedic and post Vedic Sanskrit literature.

Introduction
Sarasvati is the perennial river of Bharata. It is the very soul of Indian culture and thickly embedded in the entire fabric of Indian psyche. In fact Sarasvati and Indian culture both are interwoven. The origin of this great perennial culture of the world known as Vedic culture owes its origin to the very origin of Sarasvati. But the question of the place of the origin of Sarasvati is perplexing and vexing the scholars since the last quarter of 19th century. Scholars coming from various disciplines have had their say as to the various origins of Sarasvati basing their arguments on various evidences ranging from Sanskrit literature to the LANDSAT imagery and other modest techniques of research.
