Book Description
About the Book

Upanishads talk of the ultimate reality as pure knowledge, or consciousness principle. It is that consciousness which is reflected in everything we see. This book is a study of ten major Upanishads on this entity called consciousness, which is otherwise known as Brahman or jnanam. Commentaries by the writers of non- dualist school, particularly of Sri Shankara, have been studied in this book. It is studied in four major parts - the meaning of jnanam, the jagat, i.e. the universe in which man is a part, the sadhanas which have been told to acquire jnanam and the status of a jnani. Commentators have adopted different methodologies like study of the three states of consciousness, the five sheaths of personality, the three levels of personality, the paradigm of superimposition and its removal etc. The unity of the individual self and the Universal Self is the proposition of the non-dualist school, which is elaborated in this book.
