I feel honoured to be requested to write the foreword for this excellent work as special add on by the efforts from the Department of Shalakya tantra.
I am indeed happy to write a foreword to the book which is excellent work from the Department of Shalakya tantra. It has taken a herculean task to compile this book after referring voluminous literature of past and present with reference to "Nasya miracle for Migraine" by Dr. Gautamkumar P. Dabhi. This is a genuine work compiling original references by the authors from Ayurveda and contemporary sciences. The description of pathology with clinical application of the concepts stand unique to this issue. The resources provide comprehensive knowledge about the subject prepared in accordance with the diseases, drugs involved and its etiopathogenesis. Ayurvedic system of medicine has been practiced in the country and globally from time immemorial and has stood the test of many adversities over centuries.
This book of special additional edition from the Department of Shalakya tantra will be a timely contribution to students, practitioners, scholars and researchers of Ayurvedic medicine. The purpose of this book will be served by the progressive discussions and constructive feedbacks from the readers. I am sure the readers will be benefited immensely by this book. I wish the department to get more such opportunities to convert such intricate subject into an interesting and readable one.
Shir being the prime seat of sense organs and also the controller of entire body has been termed as "Uttamanga" Shalakya Tantra also named as Urdhvanga Chikitsa deals with the diseases of Shir and also its management. Allour ancient Acharyas had mentioned about the Shiroroga of which Shirahhoola as the main symptom and also they have also taken Shirahhoola as the synonym of Shiroroga. In Ayurvedic text, almost all the Acharyas had mentioned Ardhavabhedaka in Shiroroga.
Acharya Sushruta had mentioned11 types of Shirorogain Uttara Tantra². Amongthem, one is Ardhava bheda kainwhi chpainin half side, neck, eyebrows, temporal region, ears, eyes, half portion of the frontal region resembling paroxy smal unilateral headache associated with vertigo and pain of varying intensity. Very similar to the Migraine. Ardhava bhedaka term derived from its specific nature of pain. Literally the word Ardhavabhedaka means tearing, pricking, churning type of pain on the half of the head.
