Book Description
About the Book

A distinguished master-poet in Sindhi, Narayan Shyam was born at the village Khahi Qasim in Central Sindh. He did B.A. (Hons) in Persian from the Bombay University in 1945, and entered Government service as a teacher in Persian in 1946. After the unfortunate partition of the country, he migrated to Delhi and joined secretarial service in the Posts & Telegraphs Department. He retired from service in 1980 and died in the year 1989.

A person of an unassuming nature and quiet manners, Narayan Shyam patiently and steadily mastered the art of poetry. Starting with the composition of ghazals in the traditional style, he gradually imbibed the contemporary sensibility and successfully experimented with the new forms to express the complex reactions of the modern man. He has eleven published collections of poems to his credit which have been much admired by the discerning critics. He occupied a proud place in the front rank of Sindhi poets. A collection of poems entitles Wari-a Bharyo Palaand (skirtful of sand, 1968) won him the Sahitya Akademi Award for the year 1970. For the richness of imagery and exquisite use of language his works have been hailed as an outstanding contribution to comtemporary Sindhi literature.
