About the Book
This book contains articles presented by the erudite scholars - from Bhutan and India who participated in seminar entitled "Nalanda: Interface of Buddhism and Environment" held on 24th - 25th November, 2003 at the Royal Banquet Hall, Thimphu, Bhutan under the auspices of Festival of India in Bhutan, 2003. The book contains seventeen papers covered in three working sessions covering the theme. The papers were presented on the topics like Nalanda as a Centre of Higher Learning and its Relevance in Today's Context, Nalanda as a Centre of Dissemination of Buddhism and about its Acaryas. There were papers on Ven. Padmasambhava and his Contribution to the Spread of Buddhism in Himalayan region including Bhutan. Papers also covered the various aspects of Nalanda like Nalanda Art and its Uniqueness with Special Reference of Bronze Images, Chortens & Symbolism, Influence of Buddhism on Bhutan covering schools of Buddhism, Forestry Legislation in Bhutan, Buddhism and the Legal Trial System and Bhutanese Culture and Literature and also on Buddhism and Environment.

About the Authors
Dr Ravindra Panth is presently working as Director, Nava Nalanda Mahavihara. He is a scholar of Pali and Buddhist Studies and has edited several Pali texts and research volumes. He has presented and published several research papers in national and international seminars, conferences and journals. Dr Panth had delivered lectures in India and abroad on various themes related with Buddhism, specially on Buddhist Psychology. He has authored some books on Buddhism. His recent book on Buddhist Psychology entitled, Abhidhamma Martix is under print.

Mr Phuntsho is a scholar of Buddhist Studies with specialization in Buddhist Philosophy. He did his post-graduation from the Department of Buddhist Studies, University of Delhi, India. At present he is head PPD in the Department of Culture, Ministry of Home & Cultural Affairs, Royal Government of Bhutan, Bhutan.
