Book Description
Back of The Book
They say when you don’t find your favorite book, write it. As a woman raised in this Indian society, I have lived with myths on what to do, when to do and how to do ALWAYS told by people around me. I decided to read books but everything is written by some super-successful women who never ever lived my normal life. Some rebellious books suggested me to hate men and do things uncharacteristic of me; to me, trying to be a man is a waste of being a woman. I wrote this book for my younger self, for the girl from a lower-middle-class family who grew up watching movies and ad films soaked with myths. You don’t have to become a fighter to live a great life. You just need to know what is a myth and what is reality. That is enough to move from the survival mode to the living and conquering mode. Are you ready, sister?

Preface
I am Padmini Janaki, a woman from a normal middle-class family in south India, who studied in an English school where even the English teacher spoke in the regional language. Born with myths and lived with myths for twenty-five years, average is our life. The interesting point about being an Indian woman is that everyone can give you advice, starting from cinema superstars to your own son. Men will explain to women what to do, in movies, advertisements and TV soap operas. The best part is the other women who may also support patriarchy-mother, mother in law, aunties, and neighbours. There are not many strict rules or norms here. Some nurses can abuse pregnant women during labour and ask, "Didn't you have fun?" A marriage matchmaker can mark your skin colour and add you in a category. Your bodyweight can determine the type of man you will get in the marriage market.

There are quite a lot of books I've read in these years by leaders, experts, winners, celebrities and many other types of people, talking about equality, diversity, wages and empowerment. I liked many of them, but they all wrote these books after their success and I felt my version of women empowerment was very different from the most successful women in the US. I live in a country where half of the population is hungry, where, in some parts, hitting your spouse makes you a real man, where women still need permission to go for a job, to wear western clothes. If we think deep, there are quite a lot of myths women follow with no deep reasons. By the time women understand it was all just a myth and you should least care about what others think, they are in the age of regrets, otherwise known as their 40s.

That exactly made me write this book from my perspective. I am a millennial mother, aged 30, who was working in a regular job and then started a tech start-up recently. My life is no different from yours. Throughout my 20s, I lived many of these myths, so the points below are not the gyans or statements of digital gurus; many of them are raw and candid. I so wish I had this book when I finished my degree, when I was about to get married, when I was about to kill myself with my imposter syndrome.

Foreword
As women, we are consistently prescribed ideas, rules Land advice since the day we are born. Growing up in a small town, I experienced first-hand how women lived within the frameworks of social conditioning. In urban India, the reality is not very different.

We all have aspirations, and to achieve them, we have to break free from years of social conditioning that limits us and our dreams. That's really the crux of Myths and Millennials. Padmini beautifully breaks down the framework of limitations into thirteen chapters, each dedicated to a narrative we are fed since childhood.

As women, we respond diversely to these narratives. Some of us are instant rebels. Some of us are conformists Some of us struggle to find our inner core. The outcomes are different, but with self-awareness, we can become more and more conscious of what drives us and make better decisions for ourselves.
