The fabric of India's long history is woven with dialogues between religions; these dialogues have lent colour and design to the complex fabric that has come to be India today. At this moment in our nation's history, amidst threats of homogenisation, it has become imperative that we resurrect these dialogues, for they offer us a model of not merely tolerance but acceptance and therefore peaceful coexistence of various religions.
The essays in this book offer such possibilities of dialogues through the experiences of the writers. Within their families, in the institutions they work and in larger spaces, the writers offer testimony to the continued tradition of tolerance, acceptance and coexistence between different faiths - between my faith and others. It is a tradition that we need to foreground and emphasise so that the cultural fabric of our country continues to be complex and exciting.
