Sri Vidyananda Tirthapada Swamigal, the head of the Tirthapada Math at Vazhoor in Kottayam district of Kerala, has written a very revealing book titled 'A Week in the Blessed Presence of Swami Tapovanam'. It contains some inspiring pen pictures, as the learned author vividly describes his thrilling, purposeful pilgrimage to holy Uttarkashi where he had the fulfilment of a long cherished desire to meet the great Mahātmā, Śri Swami Tapovanam, living then in an austere looking hut that became known later on as the famous Tapovan Kuti.
Various philosophical and religious matters were discussed at their enlightening interview and some of them have been recorded in the book, which being in the provincial language of Kerala, is not likely to benefit those who are not conversant with Malayalam.
So, a free translation is being attempted with the formal permission of the author, presuming it will serve the purpose. Since English equivalents for some of the words and phrases in the original work written in highly Sanskritised Malayalam do not wield the same force of significance in translation, they are repeated as they are, being familiar enough to be understood by our readers in general.
