I feel it to be my great privilege to have gone through the printed preface and also various parts of this book 'History of India) written by Shri Rai Bahadur Budri Prasad I admire him for the great work he had undertaken and his research on various events judiciously and independently highlighting the truth. This book contains the prehistoric period, ancient, medieval, as well as the modern upto the period of British. The author has not only established his reputation as an author of this book but also brought his son His Holiness Shri Ram Chandraji Maharaj, the founder President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission on earth who introduced the new system of 'Sahaj Marg', thereby establishing so many centres of spiritual training under the new system given above for the benefit of the aspirants of spirituality. The author was not only a writer of history but a scholar, a poet known as 'Gill', as well as a lawyer of high repute and fame. In this book, the author has highlighted the truthful events of the respective times with courage and without fear or favour. The preface of this book was printed and published during his lifetime in 1921. By looking at the respective events of the respective times I feel that the events are more or less true and find support from many of the books of references referred in the book. The author has completed his work in 1920 before the Indus Valley Civilization was brought to light by the archaeologists. The treatment of the pre Buddhist period is on traditional Pauranic lines. His treatment of the Medieval period is based on known facts of history. As regards the British period the back drop of the freedom movement is all too obvious. In words of Prof. E.H.Carr, "History is a continuous dialogue between the present and the past", thus each generation discovers and interprets the past from its contemporary standpoint. This book expresses the glories of India's past and will help the scholars and readers of the book to assess the events in their right perspective. I wish and pray may this book work as a pole star for the readers, scholars history bringing to them the real consciousness of the subject.
Every Historian, when he/she takes up the writing of the history of his/her country or nation attempts to highlight its virtues and ignores its drawbacks and shortcomings, as far as possible. On the contrary when he writes the history of other countries and nations his Views become altogether different. However, his narration of events reveal the reflections of his inner heart to the critics. This has been the state of the Historians of India also. It is the duty of a historian, that he should keep away from the feelings of favouritism and prejudices, likes and dislikes and form his opinion Independently as if he is a jury Both the plus and minus points merits and demerits must be weighed impartially, and then a judgement passed in favour of that, which weighs heavier. Until such time that the historians of other countries do not second the determined results, such writings should not be treated as certified and established. This history pertains to a nation the drawbacks of which as against its meritorious qualities weigh heavier Today we are going to draw, the sketch of that piece of land on the globe where, leave alone the reference of male-generation, the deeds of its womenfolk, will remain exemplary as long as history exists. This is the history of that land where life was meant for the cause of that worshipping truth and the work of righteousness. And all such works were started in His name and in every matter. His help and support were trusted, every religious action was based on scientific perceptions and where high religions took birth, and foundation of all types of arts and learnings were laid and where culture and civilisation, laid its foot at first. In the words of Abdullah Wasit "The land, the soil of which is purer than the very wind and the wind of which is purer, than the purity and which deserves to be known as a miniature sample of paradise, or a summary shape of the entire globe To draw a realistic picture of this unique land is not at all an easy task.
