Traditionally, Atista or, 'Ban-nimbu' as commonly called in India, is used as a Ayurvedic medicine for amoeobic dysentery, fevers, hepatic disorders and vermicidal. Fragmentary proving of this drug according to homoeopathic principles was conducted by Kali Kumar Bhattacharjee in 1971, Dr. Mahendra Lal Sircar in 1973. Proving under CCRH was undertaken at three places i.e. Bhagalpur, Lucknow and Ghaziabad between 1980-81 and the drug was included in the 7th volume of the Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India published in 1999.
First edition of this monograph was published in 1996 with 81 pathogenetic symptoms and 15 clinically verified symptoms. Now Council has published it's revised edition as 'Monograph on Homoeopathic Drug Atista Indica' with 31 clinically verified symptoms. In this revised edition information on drug standardization, drug proving and clinical verification areas have been further updated. A chapter on reportorial rubrics with sources has been added to provide comprehensive view of the rubrics. The data of other study under clinical verification programme have now been included in the Monograph. There is a need to undertake future pragmatic studies to enrich its Materia Medica and clinical usage.
I hope that this revised edition will be more useful to the professionals and researchers.
