Palmistry is the ancient art of interpreting the lines and marks (which appear and disappear over time) on an individual's hand. This data is unique for every individual and gives an insight into his character and future. Some believe palmistry is related to physiognomy, the ability to judge a person solely on his facial features, which dates back to 1100 BC. Palmistry has been prevalent in India over 3,000 years. It is a part of a vast field of study, referred to as Samudrik Shastra, which literally means the ocean of knowledge. It was thought to have originated from ancient China approximately 3000 years BC. References to palmistry can also be found in Indian scriptures, from approximately 500 years BC. Today, palmistry has become popular with those wishing to move towards all things 'New Age'. Palmistry is divided up into three categories: 1. Chirognomy - study of the shape of the hands. 2. Chiromancy (the true palmistry) - lines and other markings. 3. Dermatoglyphics - study of the skin patterns. Palmistry is best seen as a dynamic process. The lines of the hand are not carved in stone. Since the lines, mounts and signs of the hand, the palm and the fingers reflect our thinking and produced, or by any without behaviour patterns the study of the above gives a definite reading of the person. Just as our thinking and progress in life change, so do the lines and markings physically change over time. Every hand is a map of a life, and every part of the hand, from the fingertips to the wrist, contains important markers to points on the map. The roads and signposts in our hands are created by our nervous systems. Our palms, fingers and hand postures tell a story about who we are and where we are going in our lives. This book has been designed for the layman, and hence the language is simple, with illustrations wherever necessary. The following presentation is meant to guide the reader in interpreting the lines and markings of the hand through a generalised, deductive approach.
