In the history of Sanskrit Journalism Madhuravāni occupied a distinct place for over forty years. It was started in 1935 and continued to serve the cause of Sanskrit language and literature until 1975. The founder editor of this Journal Sri GALAGALI RAMACHARYA popularly known as Madhura Kavi occupies a distinct place not only in the history of Sanskrit poetry of 20th century but a distinct place in the galaxy of the great Sanskrit poets who flourished for centuries.

He combined the skill of writing very sweet poems with the qualities of Prasada and Madhurya and very impressive prose with the qualities of Ojas and Känti. The themes of his poetry range from the Nature poetry of high aesthetic sensitivity to the patriotic songs of deep commitment to the freedom of the Nation. His prose covers the short essays on the social and political issues, essays on the inherent cultural and literary value of Sanskrit literature, the future of the Sanskrit language the need for the protection and preservation of the ancient temples and historical monuments. Majority of his compositions are short poems and short essays. However, two of his poems viz., Yaduvamsa Mahākāvyam, Swarajya Lahari and two of his prose compositions viz., Devi Vasanti and Koham are fairly long and constitute independent works.

Vidyadheesha Postgraduate Sanskrit Research center is now publish ing this valuable work. In addition to the previous text, articles from Sahrdaya Journal are also included along with the index of verses. I ex press my thanks to Vidwan Krishna Prasad G. for editing this book. I also thank Vagartha for neat printing and get up.
