I feel glad to present to the Ayuvedic fraternity the English Translation of the Madanpala. Nighantu, the indispensable work on Ayuvedic Materia Medica. Madanpala Nighantu, written by King Madanpala is store house of therapeutically useful drugs. I came across the Madanpala Nighatuu while pursuing under-graduation in the library of the Dayanand Ayurvedic College, Jalandhar and developed a keen interest in the field of Dravyaguna.

When I joined post graduation in Dravyaguna, I thought of starting projects related to English translation of ancient Ayuvedic Nighantu in association with Chaukhambha Orientalia, New Delhi, with god's grace, on earlier occasions we have successfully translated and published English translations of Bhiivprakasli Nighantu, Raj Nighatuu and Dhanwantari Nighantu. Now we are presenting Madanpala Nighantu for Ayuvedic fraternity.

The book has been translated according to the need of the Ayuvedic scholars and teachers, and, above all, the researchers dealing with drugs of Indian Materia Medica. I have tried my level best to include correct botanical names and family names along with the principal Sanskrit name of the drug. Therapeutics of the drugs mentioned in Sanskrit has been given along with the disease name as used in modem medicine for the benefit of the reader. Due attention has been given to drugs of metallic and animal origin and their therapeutics.

Despite all precautions, some errors may have crept into the text. The potential readers are requested to send critics related to the work. I extend warm thanks to my family and Mr. Ajay Gupta, Chaukhambha Orientalia for all the cooperation while executing the project.

I sincerely hope that the work will be accepted by the Ayurvedic fraternity and shall playa significant role in spreading the message of Ayurveda, globally.
