With the existing books in hand one would be facing difficulties to find the new roads. In the KMC also officers and staffs needed to know the changes brought about over the years in the length and breadth of the city.
With the inclusion of Joka I and Joka II, the ward numbers of Kolkata has been increased from 141 to 144. Although these three wards have been demarcated, most of the medium and small thoroughfares are yet to be named. Process has already been undertaken for naming of the roads and numbering of the buildings there but the work will take time to complete.
With a view to bring about a workable handbook Shri Harihar Prasad Mandal, WBCS (Exe.), Municipal Secretary with the help of the Assessment Collection Department, Information Technology Department has taken up the present endeavour through the Central Records Department to collate the present issue.
My thanks goes to Shri Tapan Chakraborty, Deputy Manager, Central Records Department, Shri Arun Kumar Roy, OSD, I & PR Department and Shri Ashis Kumar Mazumdar, OSD (Meeting Records), Municipal Secretary's Department. I will certainly hope that this long awaited book will serve the working requirements of the officers and staffs in the various departments of the Corporation. The book will also be sold by the corporation. I am sure that the citizens and research workers will also find the book helpful.
