Introduction
At the instance of the Indian Historical Records Commission, a series of compilations relating to the inscriptions on Christian tombs and monuments has been published by the Government of India and by the various Local Governments. These are now nearly complete and. the writer, who had already had a small part in this work, welcomed the opportunity which opened in 1936, of listing the inscriptions of H. E. H. The Nizam's Dominions. The long association of Hyderabad with European travellers and merchants, and with the Dutch, French and English East India Companies, and the constitution of the Hyderabad Contingent made this work interesting; and when it was completed in 1940, the Right Hon'ble Sir Akbar Hydari, President of H. E. H. The Nizam's Executive Council, ordered its publication at the expense of the State in uniformity with the previous volumes of the series. I am greatly indebted to H. E. H. The Nizam's Government and especially to Sir Akbar Hydari and to the Political and Archaeological Department for all their help and support.
