The study of language use has gradually emerged a significant area of research as the interests of many scholars has converged on this. Scholars interested in extending the frontiers of traditional linguistic domain have focused on speech acts in the study of language use. The study of language use by the professionals such as lawyers, doctors, workers, bureaucrats, etc., has added a significant dimension. It has been of central concern in the context of language maintenance and language shift on the one hand, and language allocation and language spread in the context of language planning on the other.
