Boenninghausen's contribution to Homoeopathic science and literature was made between the years 1828-46. The Lesser Writings by Clemens von Boenninghausen was published in 1908. T.L. Bradford collected his German writings and L.H. Tafel translated them to English. These articles have been translated from the original journals and examined very carefully. The phraseology has been left intact. Boenninghausen's thought are revealed through essays on Thuja and Small pox, the cure of Asiatic cholera, the choice of remedy and many more. Several articles relate his experience with high potencies and their application in typhoid fever and traumatic ailments. This book was out of print for a long time and owing to its demand amongst students and practitioners for this book, its Indian edition has been published by B. Jain Publishers (P) Ltd.
Dr Boenninghausen was born to one of the oldest noble families of Westphalia, Germany. He was Baron by inheritance, a lawyer by profession, and an agriculturist by natural inclination. He was practising law when a grave illness brought him to homoeopathy. He started learning homoeopathy and later contributed immensely to the science. His contributions include 'Repertory of Anti-psoric Medicines', 'Repertory of Medicines which are not anti-psoric', 'Attempt at Showing the Relative Kinship of Homeopathic Medicines' and many more. All his previous works enriched with his clinical experience was published which is now known to all of us as Therapeutic Pocket Book. Apart from repertories, he also discovered doctrines like 'Doctrine of Complete Symptoms, 'Doctrine of Concomitants', 'Evaluation of Remedies' and 'Concordances' Dr. Boenninghausen's repertory of Anti-psoric Medicines' is mother of all repertories available to homoeopathy world today. Boenninghausen died at the ripe age of 79 in 1864.
Because a number of physicians desired to obtain certain essays by Boenninghausen and because of the difficulty in obtaining them, Messrs. Boericke & Tafel decided some years since that it would be a favor and advantage to the homeopathic profession to collect the shorter writings of the old practitioner, many of which had never been before published in English, in book form.
The result is thus presented. This book includes presumably
all the magazine articles by Boenninghausen, and a few of the
smaller of the pamphlets written by him. The translations were made by Prof. L. H. Tafel especially for this book.
It has been the pleasure of the editor to collect the articles and in order so to do, all the German and French journals have been examined very carefully.
These articles have been translated from the original journals, and the phraseology has been left intact.
It is the hope that the book will be of some advantage to those of our school who have not advanced so far as to consider Boenninghausen's opinion behind the times.
