In this task of Preservation and Promotion we need to have the tools and necessary resources to identify areas of high conservation value, protect heritage at risk, to recognize the need for an integrated approach between multiple agencies, shared vision and set goals for making our motto the integral part of the livelihood of the communities whom we strive to serve.
Holding this National Seminar is part of our efforts to carry out this task of Preserving and Promoting Heritage for Posterity. And by Heritage we mean both Tangible and Intangible, hence the topic, 'The River Krishna and its Heritage'. Efforts have been made to cover the gamut of Heritage by inviting papers from almost all disciplines like ecology, archaeology, geology, sociology, culture, history architecture, and art, both visual and performing.
Thirty six papers have been received in total as the content page shows covering almost all areas of study. The seminar deliberations are segregated subject wise into four main areas of seminar Ecology, Archaeology, Geology, Socio-cultural ethics and historical heritage of the River Krishna.
The Geological Heritage of the Krishna Valley along the banks of the Nallamalai Hill ranges, an offshoot of the Eastern Ghats is discussed in detail with special reference to the three wildlife sanctuaries namely Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary (NSTR Project) in Nallamalai Hill range (Gundla Brahmeswara Wildlife Sanctuary between Mantrala Kanuma and Nandi Kanuma of Central Enamalai Hill ranges and Rollapadu Wildlife Sanctuary) for the great Indian Bustard in Kurnool district. The paper presented by the officials of the G.S.I. discusses about the diamond mining in the Krishna Valley giving an overall status of diamond exploration by the eminent scientists of GSI. In fact, it would not be out of place to say that it is the Krishna Valley which supplied great diamonds like the Kohinoor, great Mughal, Pitt, Orloff, Nizam hope and Golconda to the world. Till the end of the 17th century, it was this valley which supplied diamonds to the world.
