Preface
In the eighteenth century the power of the Marathas was felt, either directly or indirectly throughout the whole of India. Often hailed as liberator of their home land from the Mughal Empire, they do not always appear in such a role in other parts of India, and their rule was not always an unmixed blessing.

Kota was no exception to this. The period saw the end of Mughal rule, Maratha assumption of power and their inability to successfully resist the diplomacy and well organized force of the British. The political changes also affect the economic condition of Kota which is in its turn reacted the social life of the people to some extent. The Maratha rule was custodian and defender of what was time honoured and indigenous. Particularly it added new vitality the religious life of the people. Therefore, despite the over throw of the Marathas, conservative idea rooted in Kota did not gave way to the ideas from the west.

In this work an attempt has been made to analyze the Maratha relation with Kota State. Chronologically it related to Hada activities in Maharashtra as well as Maratha activities in Kota state which is generally known as Hadauti.
