There are umpteen number of books in the market in the name of Basics of Astrology, suggesting the readers about the importance of learning Astrology for their benefit and amass enormous wealth by practicing astrology among the common populace of the country. However, there is no good presentation of the astrological material for the common populace as such that can suggest the people how and why the Astrology is necessary in today's world of specialized environment of service providers.
Notwithstanding multifarious books are available throughout the world, I am compelled to jot down my own norms in Vedic Science, Astrology during my research and investigation and pursuit of wisdom since many years. Hope, readers will be enlightened to have conception in new outlook as I have tried to elucidate Astrology in the form of intermixture, Hindu notions in Traditional method, Western nomenclature and modern views in new shape. Though, among the beginners of the subject, it may be conceived as a matter of controversy that which system is to follow, my humble suggestion is to grasp entire procedures by means of analyzing on practical standpoint. Readers will be surprised to come to know that even accurate date of any event may be forecasted scientifically.
Astrology is not fiction and one is not expected to find romance in works on astrology. Astrology is really a science not fiction. According to some, the formulae enunciated by eminent ancient seers if applied to individual birth charts would indicate events which are sure to come pass. Others view this science as a science of tendencies. Long experience leads one to believe that the latter view about this science is more valid. The world is inhabited by countless human beings and we moreover cannot say even by guess how many millions of years this earth has been inhabited by human beings before we came into existence and for how many millions of years the earth will continue to have human beings in future. We but know that no two human beings are identical. The birth of the science of Astrology is the outcome of the eternal question.
It is on this basis that Horoscopic Astrology has been founded and a cardinal principle of the science was elicited. It is this principle which I propose to discuss in following pages in order to enable my readers to have adequate understanding of their better halves. To ensure success, marry by the STARS.
In addition to other numerous important chapters pertaining to Basics of Astrology, elaborately described in this Book, I would like to briefly make an understanding to the readers about Elements of Astrology. In Astrology, the Zodiac is divided into twelve Rashis and they are: Mesha (Aries), Vrisha (Taurus), Mithuna (Gemini), Karakata (Cancer), Simha (Leo), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Vrischika (Scorpio), Dhanus (Sagittarius), Makara (Capricorn), Cumbha (Aquarius) and Meena (Pisces). Of these, Mesha, Mithuna, Simha, Tula, Dhanus and Kumbha, the odd Rashis are male signs and Vrisha, Karakata, Kanya, Vrischika, Makara and Meena, the even Rashis are female signs. Tula Rashi governs the marriage and partner of life, while Vrischika Rashi governs the sex life of a person. Meena Rashi rules the extra martial life.
A native's natal chart is also divided into twelve parts known as 'Bhava' commencing from Lagna Bhava and they are: Lagna Bhava or First House, Second House, Third House, Fourth House, Fifth House, Sixth House, Seventh House, Eighth House, Ninth House, Tenth House, Eleventh House and Twelfth House. The odd houses are male Bhavas and even houses are female Bhavas. Seventh house rules the marriage and partner of life, eighth house rules the sex life and twelfth house rules the extra marital life.
The nine Planets are moving round the zodiac and they are: Ravi (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Mangal/Kuja (Mars), Budha (Mercury), Guru/Brihaspati (Jupiter), Shukra (Venus), Sani (Saturn), Rahu (Dragon's Tail). Sun, Mars and Jupiter are known as male planets; Moon and Venus are known as female planets; Saturn and Mercury are known as Eunuch. Rahu and Ketu are not considered for this purpose. All the planets have their aspect on the seventh house, Mars has additional aspect on the fourth and eight houses. Jupiter also aspects fifth and ninth houses. Saturn has its additional aspect in third and tenth houses. Rahu aspects fifth, ninth and twelfth houses in addition to its aspect in the seventh house. Rahu moves anti-clockwise and its aspect should be counted in that direction. Ketu has no aspect. Since it is tail, which is headless. It also does not aspect the seventh house. By aspect, we mean in this book the full aspects of the planets. Venus in the Karaka (ruling) planet governing marriage, partner and sex life in a male horoscope. She also rules over the semen and genital organ.
The book is designed to give the readers a thorough understanding of planets, rashis (signs), Nakshatras (stars) and houses their significations, characteristics, their use in horoscope interpretation. The book also explains the use of their interplay in actual interpretation of a horoscope. In the Chapter of Medical Astrology the Interpretation of Health and various diseases have been briefly discussed. Prashna Shastra (Horary Astrology) incorporates Prashna background querist intention, Awastha in Prashna, degree of combustion/orbs of influence, Tajik aspect, answering more than one question, Rashi characteristics for Prashna etc. Mundane Astrology means astrology of the State or National astrology which helps us to predict the general events in different countries like war, plagues, pestilences, revolution and incidents that directly affect the people of respective country. The chapter is widely covered in this book.
It does not suffice to apprehend what kind of adversity one is going to face in life. Remedial astrology can even solve the problems in one's life by prescribing Mantras and Stotra and other remedial measures. An experienced astrologer after analyzing of in Rashi, Nakshatra and other features of a horoscope can advise suitable measures for specific problem. The Remedies and Preventing Measures have been exhaustively discussed in the Chapter of 'Astrological Remedial (Upaye)', which are largely divided into many parts.
I have tried to cover a very wide area of astrology in this book. But the subject is much more extensive. I may add here that the book is unparalleled in extensive delineation and thorough analysis and so may be safely classed as an authentic work on Nirayana or Indian system of Astrology. Indian, Eastern and Western readers would be highly benefited by the author's scholarship and research as recorded in this monumental work.
Last but not the least, this work does not pretend to be complete in any sense of the term. It is nothing but an attempt to serve the interest of the common man. We are more than anybody else, conscious of many defects and blemishes which would have inadvertently crept in this book. For this, I shall be extremely grateful to accept any suggestion from the valued readers.
The Book is a collection of material composed by various authors who have worked in this field and I have tried to built it up gradually so that the compilation can be understood and a complexed subject like Transits also covered. Any errors and omissions are my own despite the barrage of corrections and editing carried out by Col. Dee Baswani (Retd.)
Thanks to them and other Reviewers who contributed the volumes of feedback that made my writing and examples more readable and correct.
I wish to express my thanks to my friends Pinku and Tinku for being a source of motivation as well as Shri Narender Sagar who stimulates me for writing.
My special thanks to my mother Dr. Krishna as without her blessings it would have not possible to write on this topic.
My gratitude to my wife Renu and daughter Gudiya Vrinda for providing me with the aim and purpose.
I would also like to thank Mr. Bhupender Singh Negi for typing, editing and numerous other activities associated with the publication of this Book.
This Seventh Book, like the previous Six, is also dedicated to my father Late Shri Kailash Chander who taught me this Science as a child and was himself a great devotee of this subject in the days when there were no computers.
I would like to end this with the thought of Vrindavan and Banke Bihari whose blessings have been with me and I always look upon him in all my endeavours.

Astrology perhaps is the most ancient science. Bone remnants have been discovered with astronomical inscriptions and with an outline of moons orbit in the sky, dating back to the Sumerian civilization. The tiny blade of grass has an impact on the sun as the sun has an impact on the blade of grass. Life is whole and one can understand astrology if you can perceive the wholeness. The whole solar family is born out of the Sun. The Moon, Mars, Jupiter and the rest of the planets including the earth are all organic parts of the Sun. Astrology is an investigation into the possibility that whatever is happening in anywhere in the universe also affects man. The essence of astrology is not separation but that we are born with certain energy fields which make us to act.
In this book I have tried to compile the various facets of astrological principles which are in our written domain. This book is a ready reference for those interested in the basics of astrology as well as for those who would like to dwell deeper. Also with astrology becoming a tool in our daily lives it is important to know the basics and then go for consultation and queries. The science is holistic and connected to other fields, for which research in universal harmony is a must.
This is the seventh book of the author, the first being Bhrigu Samhita: Predictive Techniques Deciphered, second, Know about Jupiter & Saturn, third, Know about Mars & Mercury, fourth, Your Profession: Ups & Downs with Remedial Measures, fifth, Relationship: Marriage, Love & Sex and the sixth being, Know about Luminaries: The Sun & The Moon.
