Khushwant Singh (1915-2014) was andis arguably the most well-known Indian English writer in India, known as much or even more for his columns and joke collections as for his writing on the Sikhs, and his fiction. He was a lawyer, a diplomat, a teacher and historian, a journalist and editor of note, a parliamentarian, a representative of the Sikh community, a translator, a novelist and short story writer of note, and simply one of the most-loved Indian writers of his generation. A winner of the Padma Vibushan, his writings chart the changes that India experienced from mid-20th century through the first decade of the new millennium. G.J.V. Prasad (b. 1955) is Professor of English at Jawaharlal Nehru University, India and former Director of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Advanced Study, JNU. He has co-edited with Sara Rai a collection of stories from Indian languages, lmaging the Other. His academic publications include Continuities in Indian English Poetry: Nation Language Form and Writing India, Writing English, along with five other edited volumes of critical essays. A poet and novelist G.J.V. Prasad has most notably received the Katha award for translation from Tamil.
