Ka Na Su was a literary critic par excellence and a creative writer of renown. His critical work A Movement for Literature (Illakiyatirku Or Iyakkam) won him the Sahitya Akademi award. His novel Poi Thevu (1966) remains a significant milestone in Tamil fiction. Ka Na Su translated several Nobel prize-winning novels as well as short stories into Tamil. His works on aesthetics and literary criticism such as Vimarisana Kalai (1959) and Kalai Nuttpangal (1988) deserve special attention.
