Alessandra Avanzini contributes to the Indian Ocean database by her brief on the excavations of the ancient port-site of Sumhuram/Khor Rori site on the southern Oman coast. She has also contributed the beautiful pictures of the Sumhuram / Khor Rori which grace the cover of this issue. We are thankful to her.
We thank the design team at VAP for their quick and efficient work. Our editorial assistant, Pranab Jyoti Sarma has put in hard work on the computer. He deserves our heartfelt thanks. All illustrations, maps and photographs are acknowledged at the end of the aricle and not below the figures and photographs. A number of authors have contributed to our column 'Notes and News' which embodies short reports on their field-work. We hope that this issue advances the idea of the early Indian Ocean world and encourages more contributions.
