About the Book
The Journal of Indian Intellectual Traditions is a biannual Journal of the Centre of Advanced Study in Sanskrit, University of Pune, Pune-411007 (India).

It accepts and publishes original research articles related to any aspect of any knowledge domain of Indian Intellectual Culture. It encourages interdisciplinary approach for civilizational dialogue.

It also accepts book-reviews and notes.

Introduction
The Jayavaṁśa Mahākāvya was composed by the Poet laureate Sitarama Bhatta Parbhanikar of the Jaipur dynasty. His predecessor Mädhava Bhatta came to Jaipur from village Parbhani of Maharashtra and was appointed Rājapandita by the king Vishnu Singh to teach śastras to his son Jai Singh and others. The Poet gives information about his lineage in the 10th canto of this Mahākāvya. Sitarama Bhatta Parbhanikar wrote 41 books and a commentary on Kumārasambhava of Kalidasa(8th-17th canto). He also commented on various shastric texts which are preserved in Pothikhana of Jaipur Maharaja. He is the author of three famous Mahākāvyas, namely Nalavilāsa, Jayavaṁśa and Raghavacaritra.

The Jayavaṁśa Mahākāvya was composed during the 1889 v.s. It deals with the historical events of the Jaipur state. Sitarama Bhatta Parbhanikar was a court poet of Maharaja Jai Singh (III) of Jaipur princely state. The Jayavaṁśa Mahākāvya was composed on the line of the Raghuvamśa of Kālidāsa. It comprises of ninteen cantos and each canto deals with one king of the Jaipur state. There are about 1674 verses in different meters in the Mahakavya.
