Dr. Kamala Hampana (b:1935), Retired Professor of Jainology and Prakrit( Mysore University), is one of the major writers in Kannada literature. Her long journey of eighty three years is embellished with many extraordinary accomplishments and studded with literary gems. She has engaged in de-voted study of ancient and modern literature, epigraphy, history and literary criticism. Her love for classical literature did not deter her from her passion for contemporary literature of the East and West. She has traveled far and wide to present learned papers in various International Seminars. She is equally good in Kannada and English and has written more than 80 books in different genres -- short stories, Radio plays, poems, vachanas, criticism, editing Old-classics, translation from English and Telugu, and books for Children. Kamala Hampana's contribution to literature is significant and seminal, both in quality and in quantity. She is recipient of many Awards including Danachintamani Attimabbe Prashasti, Chavundaraya Prashasti and Baba Amte Rashtreeya Puraskar. Kannada literary world has honored her by bestowing the Presidentship of All India Kannada Literary Conference held at Mudabidre in 2003.
