Welcome to the Jain Sculptural Gallery of the Andhra Pradesh State Museum, commissioned in collaboration with the Jain community, thus bridging the gap between museums and community, fulfilling our museological role. The opening of this gallery heralds the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the A.P. State Museum. The task of commissioning this gallery was two fold; first conserving and restoring the heritage structure and planning the execution of this novel gallery displaying Jain Tirthankaras, goddesses and Inscriptions curated from all over Andhra Pradesh.
This companion guide has been published to help visitors appreciate. understand and enjoy the collection showcased. I would also like to place on record the generous financial support given by the Sri Jain Seva Sangh, Hyderabad and Secunderabad for commissioning the gallery, refurbishing the Bhagwan Mahavir Auditorium, landscaping and illuminating the gardens including providing bore water and last but not the least in supporting this publication.
We are extremely thankful to the constant encouragement and guidance given by Smt. N. Rajyalakshmi, Hon'ble Minister for School, Education, Libraries, Archives and Archaeology & Museum. We are indeed very grateful for the unrelenting support and directions received from Sri. V. Nagi Reddy, Secretary YATC & Archaeology & Museums. In these endeavors the officers and staff of the Dept have rendered their uncompromising and enthusiastic support and hard work.
We are especially thankful to the entire Jain community especially Sri. Vijay Raj Sethia, President, Sri. Basant Bafna, Secretary, Sri. Bhanwarlal Bafna, and Sri. U.P. Bhandari Convenors and Sri. Gautam Pokarna.
