It is primarily intended for use to metal conservators. Engineers, metal conservation scientists, sculptures and student striving to acquire some background and perspective on this subject. Conservation of the iron artifacts is one of the major challenges of our time for metal conservators. With the advancement of science and technology several new materials have come out time to time. However a random survey indicates that there is hardly a book, which covers from history of iron to philosophy and conservation of iron including technique of casting deterioration and metallographic studies for measurement of types and level of decay of metals.

This book is expected to be useful not only for the University Students technologists and practicing conservators, metal sculptures, artists and metallurgists but also for all those who are entrusted with the responsibilities for conserving the iron and iron artifacts.

Mr. Shyam Narayan, author of this book entitled "Iron Artifacts: History, Metallurgy, Corrosion and Conservation" is M.Sc. in Chemistry from B.H.U, Varanasi, India and a well known professional in the field of conservation of metal artifacts. Presently he is serving in Metal Research Division, National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC), Lucknow, India, a premier institution devoted conservation research and conservation of Cultural Heritage. He has organized a number of curative and preventive training programmers to safeguard the cultural heritage. He was deputed Japan to learn new techniques in this area. He has a wide experience in conservation of metal artifacts. He has published three books and twenty five articles, reports and research papers in National and International Journals.

Professor Kamal K Jain, is well known professional in the field of conversation of cultural heritage. Presently he is serving as a Dean (Academic Affairs) and Head of the Department of Conservation at National Museum Institute, New Delhi. Prior to joining NMI, Prof. Jain Served as junior Scientific Officer, Senior Scientific Officer and Finally as project officer at National Research Laboratory for Conservation of Cultural Property (NRLC), Lucknow, a premier institution devoted conservation cultural Heritage. During his long and eventful career Prof. Jain has traveled and taught extensively on the various topic ranging from conservation of stone, Ceramic and Glass to Preventive Conservation involving Recognition of Museum Storage as well as disaster management.

This book is deals extensively a very important subject "Iron artifacts: History, Metallurgy, Corrosion and Conservation". It has been written mainly for metal conservators, engineers, metal conservation scientists, sculptors and students striving to acquire some background and perspective on this subject. Particularly emphasis have been given on describing the history of iron on global perspective, raw materials including nature of ferrous materials and manufacturing process of iron, deterioration and corrosion and conservation of iron artifacts.
