Preface The present book of "Inscriptions of Andhra Pradesh-Medak district" is fifth in the District Series of Inscriptions, which this Department has undertaken to publish, as a consequence of the village-wise survey conducted in Medak district by the Epigraphy branch, Dept. of Archaeology & Museums. The survey conducted in 1265 villages, yielded about 300 invaluable inscriptions engraved on stone slabs, pillars and rock boulders in different languages i e. Sanskrit, Telugu and Kannada in Nagari and Telugu-Kannada scripts.

Introduction The district of Medak (latitude 17º 28°-18° 19' North and longitude 77° 10° and 79° 10° East) is bounded on the east by Warangal and Nalgonda districts, on the South by Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts, on the west by Bidar dist. of Karnataka State and on the North by Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts. The district comprises 11 taluks. They are, according to the 1981 Census, 1.Andole 2.Gajwel 3.Dubak 4.Medak 5.Narsapur 6.Narayankhed 7.Ramayampet 8.Sadasivpet 9.Sangareddy 10. Siddipet and 11.Zaheerabad.
