Gandharvs and Yakshs were super-humans in the service of gods. The gandharvs were sky-spirits, especially skilled in music and dancing, but also good at fighting and skilled with horses. They lived in Gandharvlok, somewhere in the outskirts of Indralok, the kingdom of Indra, the king of the gods. They were mostly men, with apsaras or nymphs as their consorts. The yakshs served Kuber, the treasurer of the gods. They lived in Alakapuri on Mount Kailash in the Himalayas, and guarded the gold of the gods that was stored there. The yakshs, like the gandharvs, had battle skills and magical powers such as that of taking different forms.
