Epigraphy occupies an important place in the study of Indology in general and that of Indian history in particular. It is an authentic source and throws light on different aspects of our culture. The present collection by Dr. Narasimha Murthy consists of edited inscriptions, translations and study of the historical significance, palaeographical peculiarities and geographical details.
Dr. A. V. Narasimha Murthy (born in 1935) comes from a reputed family of scholars from Sringeri. He obtained Master's Degree in Indology as a student of world renowned Prof. K. A. Nilakanta Sastri. Subsequently he served in the Archaeological Survey of India. Then he joined Andhra University as a faculty. Thereafter he joined the Mysore University and retired as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ancient History and Archaeology. Subsequently he became the UGC Emeritus Fellow. He was the Director of Revision and reprint of Epigraphia Carnatica at Mysore University. The world of scholars honoured Dr. Murthy with two felicitation volumes, one in English and the other in Kannada. Prof. Murthy was a Fulbright scholar at Harvard university, USA.
