D P Ramachandran is a former Indian Army Officer who pursued a corporate career after his 10-ycar short service stint in the army and is now retired. A war veteran and military history. enthusiast, he has authored two books; Legion of the Brave [EastWest Books (Madras) Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, 2001], a first person narrative of action during the 1971 Bangladesh War and Empire's First, Soldiers, [Lancer Publishers, New Delhi, 2008], battlefield history of the South Indian Soldiery during the last two and a half centuries. Both the books found wide readership and rare reviews. He has also contributed a 50,000-word essay on the Military, History, of Madras for the prestigious compendium, Madras -Chenai, - A 400-year record of the First City of Modern. India [Palaniapiya Brothers, Chennai, 2008], championed by the Association of British Scholars and the British Council Division. He contributes articles on military history to The Hindu occasionally, besides giving talks and presentations on the topic in public forums. The heritage organization he has founded, Colours of Glory Foundation, is the first-ever initiative in India to promote public awareness of the country's military past. This Chennai-based organization has been hosting various events in the city highlighting India's military history - like exhibitions, military. tattoos, battle re-enactments, etc - since its inception about three years ago.
