THE QUOTES PRESENTED IN THIS BOOK ORIGINATE FROM A SELECTION OF EMAILS EXCHANGED OVER SEVERAL YEARS, REFLECTING THE CANDID TEACHINGS ROOTED IN THE FINEST TRADITIONS OF YOGA.
THE RECIPIENTS INCLUDE DISCIPLES OF BASILE P. CATOMÉRIS AND YBGA-ATTUNED PEN PALS FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE.
ADDRESSING A VARIETY OF PERSONAL MATTERS AND PHILOSOPHICAL ISSUES, THE BOOK SERVES AS A VALUABLE SOURCE OF GUIDANCE AND INSPIRATION FOR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE.
Born in France, Basile P. Catomeris moved to Sweden in the mid-1950s. There, he met his future spiritual mentor, Sri Shyam Sundar Goswami-a Yoga master and recognized pioneer of contemporary Yoga. Over time, they developed a close guru-chela relationship, and as his spiritual heir, Basile P. Catoméris continued his Guru's teachings.
Alongside a successful international career in Intellectual Property and a regular family life, the author dedicated his life to the study, practice, and teaching of Hatha Yoga doctrine.
Approximately twenty years ago, Basile P. Catoméris returned to southern France, where he currently resides.
The quotes presented here (italicized from Author's correspondents) stem from a modest selection of mails exchanged under a relatively short number of years, bearing witness to the candid teachings in the best of Yoga traditions.
Unscripted but relevant to spiritual practice (and hopefully inspiring), they deal with a wide variety of personal, tangible matters and philosophical issues. Recipients of the mails are disciples and Yoga-attuned pen pals from all over the world.
Although I was born and educated in France, destiny brought me to Sweden, where I happened to meet Sri Shyam Sundar Goswami. Incidentally, this decisive meeting occurred on the birthday of my first son (which also happens to be my own birthday). After a period of regularly attending this Yoga master's weekly asana classes, my intellectual curiosity drew me to also attend his lectures. In the course of time, my relationship morphed into that of a close assistant and thankful disciple.
My gradual discovery of the Yoga tradition occurred in the Middle Way lifestyle the standard challenge of combining outwardly directed energies with an introspective dimension. For more than two decades, I earnestly dedicated myself to the regular study and practice of Hatha Yoga, at the feet of Sri S.S. Goswami, while honoring my family duties and navigating the various challenges involved with carrying out an international career in the legal field. Thanks to my guru's teaching, I've had the honor to be invited to lecture at the Lonavla Yoga Institute (the only ashram then to be supported by the Indian state) in Poona, India. I have been initiated by my guru's own spiritual mother at the highest level, something unusual for a Westerner. In recognition for this success in life, which I attribute to Yoga, I set up a multilingual Goswami-dedicated website (www.goswami-yogainstitute.com) to honor the name and teaching of my beloved guru, and to share his biographical data with the world.
Shyam Sundar Goswami was invited to Stockholm to represent India at the 1949 World Physical Congress (in connection with the 2nd Lingiad). After the congress, the erudite guest lecturer accepted an invitation to stay in Sweden and continue his research and teachings.
That led to the setting up of The Goswami Yoga Institute, which became the first Yoga school in Scandinavia, tentatively in Europe. As an outstanding representative of Hindu tradition, and a recognized major pioneer of modern Yoga, Sri Shyam Sundar Goswami dedicated most of his life to the study of the Hindu traditions, besides teaching and lecturing until the last days of his life. Sri Goswami wanted to popularize Yoga in the West, while being consistently faithful to the classical Yoga tradition, which we can find in his research, teachings, and books.
As Sri Shyam Sundar Goswami's spiritual heir, the goal of my own teachings and writings is to pass on what I once received. I hope the messages in this compilation reflect my gratitude and love for an outstanding human being and inspiring spiritual guide.
