Book Description
About the Book
This book is an attempt to bring out the impact of Sri Aurobindo on literature of Prof. V.K.Gokak. Sri Aurobindo made a very notable impact on Kannada literature as many eminent writers from Karnataka including Prof. D.R. Bendre, the literary guru of Prof. V.K. Gokak, were drawn towards the magnetic personality of Sri Aurobindo and had become his disciples. Prof. Bendre's discourses on Sri Aurobindo impressed Prof. V.K. Gokak and were indeed instrumental in stimulating his interest in Sri Aurobindo. Prof. Gokak later on studied Sri Aurobindo's works independently and became an Aurobindonian himself. In his book titled "Nanna Jeeavana Drushti" in Kannada, he has given a macro-view of Sri Aurobindo's influence on him at various stages of his evolution as a writer. The author, Shri Anil Gokak felt that a detailed account of Sri Aurobindo's influence on the literary works of Prof. V.K.Gokak in the light of the analysis made by Prof. V.K.Gokak himself in "Nanna Jeevana Drushti.", would give a clearer picture of the influence and impact of Sri Aurobindo on the literature of Prof. V.K. Gokak. The author has made use of all the records which were left behind by Prof. V.K. Gokak and this lends authenticity to the book. Dr. Yashoda Bhat Former Reader in English K.M.College University of Delhi. also author in Kannada and English.

Gokak, which is in Kannada is expected to be published shortly.

Preface
I have penned down my thoughts on the impact of Sri Aurobindo on the life and literature of my father, Prof. V.K. Gokak for a number of reasons. The multi-faceted personality of Sri Aurobindo, one of the most important luminaries of the Indian Renaissance, had a very great impact on the life and literature of Prof. Gokak. He in fact, shaped his philosophy of Life. I could feel the impact of Sri Aurobindo on my father in the early stages of my life for not a day passed without his mentioning to us about his greatness and unique contribution to Indian culture and spirituality. His frequent references to Sri Aurobindo had created only a few hazy impressions on my mind. in my childhood. I could apprehend neither the rationale behind his fascination for Sri Aurobindo nor the magnetic impulse that drew him with an increasingly greater intensity towards him. It was only when I read some of the poems and prose works of Sri Aurobindo later on in my life that I began to understand the reasons for his reverence for Sri Aurobindo. Needless to mention, this too did not enable me to grasp the width and depth of Sri Aurobindo's philosophy. The language of Sri Aurobindo did not lend itself to easy interpretation. It is only after my retirement that I was able to read some of the major works of Sri Aurobindo at leisure and have a better understanding of them.
