Back of the Book P S Shankar is an eminent doctor and an educationist living in Kalaburagi. He has published several books on health issues and medicines to create an awareness among the people about health hazards and the ways of keeping good health.

About the Author Dr. P. S. Shankar Dr. P. S. Shankar, has been a Professor of Medicine for 59 years and Administrator of Medical Colleges as Principal, Dean/Director over 30 years, author/editor of 230 books in English and Kannada including a Medical Encyclopaedia, an English Medical Dictionary and English-Kannada Science Dictionary. He has done original work on tuberculosis, COPD, lung cancer and bronchial asthma. He is a recipient of Dr. B. C. Roy National Award twice as an eminent medical teacher, and as orator, gifted teacher award of API and Master Teacher award of ICP, Honorary Doctorate including Nadia by 5 Universities such as Gulbarga University, NTR University of Health Sciences, AP, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, Tumkur University, and Kannada University, Hampi, Rockefeller Scholar-in-residence, Commonwealth Medical Fellowship, Science Communicator award from Government of India, Karnataka Rajyotsava award, Sri M Vishveswaraya Senior Scientist award, Senior citizen award from Karnataka Government, Life time achievement awards from National College of Chest Physicians, Indian Chest Society, Geriatric Society of India, Karnataka Science and Technology Academy and RSSDI-Karnataka, Vishwamanava award and Nudisiri award. He is senior CEO of KBN Hospital, Kalaburagi. He is a Patron, Geriatric Society of India. He is a Visiting Professor of KLE University, Belagavi, and Senior Educational Advisor of Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai. He is closely associated with Karnataka Science and Technology academy, of which he is a fellow, Vision Group on science and technology and Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology. He edits Rajiv Gandhi University Journals in English and Kannada, Medicine update and a science journal, Vignana Loka. He is on the Governing Body of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest, and on the academic council of Central University of Karnataka. He was first to be recognized as Emeritus Professor of Medicine by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, which praised him as "an incredibly versatile, larger than life personality". Further it said, " he is an eminent teacher, an erudite scholar, renowned researcher, accomplished clinician, able administrator, well-known litterateur, and a distinguished lexicographer". A Pratishthanam is functioning since 21 years in his name and it offers scholarships to meritorious, poor students who have joined medical course. He was the first Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Gulbarga University.
