Sri Thakur Satyananda, one such God-realised Saint, is deeply revered as the human reincarnation of the Supreme Godhead. His Divinity found its outlet through a dazzling array of channels: religion, spirituality, humanitarian service, education, literature, music, drama, and so many other ways.

Sri Thakur Satyananda is the Avatar, the Human Reincarnation of the Supreme Godhead, who had graced this modern age.

He chose to appear in the devotion-filled household of Sri Mahendra Nath Mukhopadhyay and Smt Kashiswari Devi, as their second son, Satyabrata in February 1902 in Calcutta. And the miraculous incidents that occurred both before and after his divine birth indicated that God himself had made His descent onto the earth in the form of an "Avatar Intense spirituality was the hallmark of the illustrious life of Satyabrata throughout as he transitioned from his childhood to youth. His innate inclination towards a life of renunciation got a further boost through receipt of formal 'Mantra Deeksha (spiritual initiation) from His Holiness, Swami Abhedananda a direct disciple of Bhagavan Ramakrishna Dev. After practising intense 'sadhana' (spiritual penance) at his own house for a prolonged period, Satyabrata was blessed by the Divine Mother Herself, who granted him the sacred vow of 'Sanyas (monkhood) with a new monastic name, Satyananda.

Sri Satyananda continued his 'sadhana' at his ancestral house in Suri town in the Birbhum district of undivided Bengal Gradually spiritual seekers started coming here to seek his holy company and ultimately in 1939, "Sri Ramakrishna Ashram" came to be formally opened at this very house. This was his first Ashram.
