This book attempted to examine the historical perspective of the economic system in Manipur during the Medieval period. Manipur is known for its unique mosaic of ethnic diversity and geographical features. It also states that the history of humankind, primitive or civilised, dealt with their battle for existence. The changing processes and evolution from the barbaric way of dwelling to civilisation were the possessions of their consecutive and nonstop efforts and struggles of living. The book's central theme revolved around various economic activities like agricultural production and land use; Industry and Manufactures: Pottery; Salt Manufacturing; Yu or Rice beer; Boat Manufacture and Trade and commerce and its associated problems and prospects.

This book will be of great value addition to the existing literature. It will also provide a strong foundation for further research on socio-political and economic history in the North Eastern States. Subsequently, it will be helpful in Policymakers, social scientists, and NGOs associated with socio-economic development studies in the region.

MOIRANGTHEM SURESH SINGH (b..1980) holds an MA, M Phil, and PhD from the University of Hyderabad, India. His areas of research interest are in Medieval Indian history, Trade and Economy, Gender and Identity, Socio-Economic changes in Medieval Manipur. He has done extensive study on Economic history of Manipur for his Mphil and PhD research. He has contributed various articles in reputed journals/edited books and presented papers in international and national seminars. Before joining his PhD, he worked in various corporate organizations and retail sectors for few years. He has been actively involved in various academic projects and retail market-related projects over the years.

Many scholars and experts have studied and explored various various facets of socio-cultural and political dimensions ✓of Manipur through a historical perspective. Unfortunately, many of these studies have failed to provide an in-depth perspective on the state's economic history, which is an essential component for capturing the holistic view of the people of Manipur. In this view, this book attempted to examine the historical perspective of the economic system in Manipur during the Medieval period. Thus, the study's core objective is to map the production of a diverse range of things in their broader context(s) and to explain their evolution through time by accounting for the introduction of new modes of production and innovations, as well as its ebbs and tides.
