Book Description
About the Book
India is a vast country. At one time it measured about 2500 miles from East to West and 2000 miles from North to South. It had 6000 miles of land frontier and 5000 miles of sea frontier. Its area was about 20 lakh square miles which was two third of the United States and 20 times the size of Great Britain. After the partition of India in 1947 its size was reduced by one third but even now it is fairly big. History is usually the product of two great forces of Environment and Personality. In the North of India there are lofty Himalayan mountains whose branches are spread both in the East and in the West. There was a time when these ranges were regarded as inaccessible but the chinese invasion has exploded that myth.

Preface
In the north-west of India there are several passes across the Hindukush. Among these khyber, Tochi, Kurra Kuram, Gomal and Bolan are the most prominent. These passes in ancient times have served as the channels of commercial and cultural relations of India with the countries abroad.
