A learned Society can best justify its existence and most widely benefit the scholarly world if it publishes original docu-ments and the fruits of research. For such a task Satara has great potentiality in Nana Fadnis's Menavli daftar, secured by the Museum through Rao Bahadur D. B. Parasnis, and the old papers of several historic families living in the district. Parasnis published a large portion of these Fadnis papers, and the Satara Historical R. Society has done the right thing by undertaking to print every document of importance that he left untouched. This great task, when accomplished, will fill a gap in Maratha history. For Mahadji Sindhia in particular, the documents in edites' of Menavli are invaluable as helping to complete the information supplied by the five volumes of his records printed (privately) for the Gwalior Darbar by Parasnis. Their publication will win for the Satara Society the gratitude of all earnest students of Indian history and admirers of the Maratha race. The new series deserves the blessings of the learned world.
