Book Description
Back of the Book
'Unlike the other major religions of the world such as Buddhism, Christianity and Islam, Hinduism was not founded on the teachings of one godly person. Awe have seen, its origins go back to the hymns of the Rig Veda, from where it gradually evolved over thousands of years. Many sects arose within Hinduism and each developed its own philosophy and form of worship.

Numbering over a thousand, these Vedic hymns are ... the fountainhead of mankind's oldest surviving religion that has come to be called "Hinduism".

About the Book
Embark on a sweeping journey through the rich and diverse history of Hinduism, from its ancient origins to its vibrant modern-day practices. This book delves into its mystical past, tracing the sacred scriptures like the Vedas and the Upanishads, which have bestowed wisdom and spiritual guidance upon generations. This exploration goes beyond the evolution of Hinduism from a mythical or religious perspective; it studies the sociological aspects that have shaped this evolution.

Witness the rise and fall of mighty empires that shaped the course of Hindu civilization, from the Mauryas to the Gupta dynasty, and the unfolding of the golden era of art, architecture and philosophy.

Hinduism: From Rig Veda to the Republic is not merely a history book but also a celebration of a living tradition, an exploration of its enduring impact on the world, and an invitation to discover the spiritual wisdom that has resonated through the ages.

Introduction
Hinduism, which evolved in India, is one of the oldest living religions in the world. About 83 per cent of India's population is Hindu. In later times millions of Hindus have migrated to other countries, taking their faith and culture with them. The word 'Hindu' is of ancient Persian origin. The Persians or Iranians were fellow travellers of the Rigvedic people, who are believed to have migrated to India from Central Asia. The people of Sindh-Baluchistan had used the word 'Hindu' to describe those who migrated beyond and settled on the river Indus in India, which was called the 'Sindhu'. It is assumed that the Iranians pronounced 'sa' as 'ha', and therefore, 'Sindhu' as 'Hindu.
