In the Predominatily tribal of Chotanagpur there are a number of ancient and old Hindu shrines. The most important of these is the shrine of Tanginath in Majhgaon village on the Bihar- Madhya Pradesh border.
In this informative book Dr Sahay explore and examines the relationship of the tribal people with the Hindu and Buddhist shrines of different categories. His special focus is on Tanginath.
Besides using conventional methods of anthropological research the Author has drawn extensively from other sources. He has also used folklore and available historical and archaeological evidence.
The book is an important contribution in an area which is largely uncharted.
About the Author
Dr. K. N. Sahay is reader in Anthropology in Ranchi University. Currently he is a Visiting Fellow at the Indian institute of Advanced study, Simla, Dr. Sahay obtained his PhD Degree from Ranchi University in 1964. He has published a number of papers in learned journals in India and abroad and his major book Under the shadow of the Cross is in Press.
At the Indian institute of advanced Study he is working on the nature and processes of conversion of selected tribal and caste groups to Christianity.
