Preface:
Pilgrimage-ritual visit to holy places-is an essential part of a votary's life in every religion. It is even more so in Hinduism.
Though milk is present in the whole body of a cow, it can be got only through its udder. Similarly, though God is present everywhere, his presence is felt much more tangibly in places of pilgrimage. This is how Bhagavan Sri Ramakrishana puts it, in his own inimitable style.
The places of pilgrimage in India are legion. So also the books concerning them.
However, there is a great need to get the essential information about some of the more important (and popular) centers of pilgrimage, in a concise and readable form.
This book is humble attempt in that direction.
One word of caution! This is not a handbook or guide to the pilgrim centers! Its purpose is only to give general information about them.
We are grateful to Sri B. N. Nataraj who, as usual, has bestowed meticulous attention to make this book elegant and attractive.
