Book Description
About The Book

Hathayogapradipika is one of the most important Hathayoga Texts which has been recommended as one of the Text Book in almost all the yoga courses like PGDYSc., BA/BSc. (Yoga Science), MA/MSc.. (Yoga Science), BNYS etc. Many authors have attempted to elaborate the contents of Hathayogapradipika, however, they have not written them from the view point of students and their understanding. These texts simply provide translation of verses or some elaborated description which is not in coordination with the texts. The Sanskrt commentary Jyotsna on Hathayogapradipika by Brahmananda which was published in original Sanskrt script with its English and Hindi Translation, is considered as one of the most valuable publication published by Adyar Library, Chennai. However, it is also very difficult for the beginners and non- Sanskrt yoga students to understand it easily.

It is needless to say that among all the Hathayogic Texts, Hatha- yogapradipika holds a very special status among Yoga practitioners and yoga lovers.

Preface

I am very happy to present this third edition of the book Hathayogapradipika in the hands of our readers. The author/commentator of this book is highly thankful to its readers for their overwhelming support for this work.

This book is an improvised edition with the inclusion of certain special information with regard to verse no. 1/15, 16; 1/38 etc. for the sake of readers. The comparative table on eight Kumbhakas from Gheranda Samhita and Hathayogapradipika has also been given in the appendix 2. Illustrations have also been provided at the place of their discussion in the text.

We are thankful to Prop. Chaukhamba Surbharti Prakashan for taking up the responsibility of its publication. I have no words to express my gratitude. I can simply say that publication of books is not their business, rather it is their mission to bring into light the depositories of Indian wisdom in the form of books.

I am proud of my Grand Son Master Soumil Sagar (a Boy of just 14 years of age) who has helped me patiently and intelligently in finalizing the book and I have incorporated his suggestions at various places. It will not be proper to thank him, but I pray that May God Bless him and help him in accomplishing all his ambitions in his life.
