The author. Dr. Shobha Bhat. K belongs to Udupi District in Karnataka. Having completed her schooling in Udupi, she obtained her BAMS degree from S.D.M. College of Ayurveda, Udupi. Her M.D. (Ayu.) was in Agadatantra at the prestigious V.P.S.V Ayurveda College Kottakkal, Kerala and Ph.D. from the esteemed Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The author has served as a faculty in the Department of Agadatantra at S.D.M. College of Ayurveda Hassan and Udupi in Karnataka. Presently she is serving as Professor and Head in the Department of Agad Tantra at Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS, BHU, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Vavahara Ayurveda and Vidhivaidyaka are a part of Agad Tantra which is currently taught to the students of BAMS in the 3" year. The Ayurvedic classics have not mentioned much regarding the above two domains. Under these two arena, we teach students the relevant topics of contemporary importance included under Forensic medicine and Medical Jurisprudence. The modern medical textbooks involving these topics have explained these spheres elaborately. Anyhow, an Ayurvedic Scholar does not require such detailing. especially in the context of Forensic medicine, as bachelors of Ayurveda are not allowed to contribute through this knowledge according to the current status of law in the country. Anyhow, these topics cannot be neglected completely as many of the related issues may have to be encountered in day to day clinical practice Unfortunately, students of Ayurveda find it difficult to analyse on what is important and what is the minimal one needs to know in these spheres. This handbook on Vyavahara Ayurveda and Vidhivaidyaka is just a compilation from different texts of Forensic medicine and Medical Jurisprudence. It is presented in the form of important question and answers on relevant topics of both these domains as per the current NCISM syllabus. Such a presentation makes it easier for the students to prepare for the examinations as well. The matter compiled is comprehensive, clear and brief and in a simplified presentable form. Wherever necessary, tables and figures have been added to simplify the context so that it is easily understandable to the students.
I acknowledge the authors of all the reference books and articles that I have referred in preparing this compilation. I am thankful to my family, my teachers, my professional colleagues and of course my students from the beginning of my carrier, till date who have supported me in this journey. It is tried hard to keep the book free from errors. Anyhow, if a reader comes across any such errors, or wants to send any comment or suggestion, please do leave me a mail on shobha.bhat1@bhu.ac.in. I hope the readers of this book will find it of immense help.
