Dr. Sudhaldev Mohapatra was born in a middle class teacher family in Ichhapur, of District Kendrapara [Tulasi Kshetra], Odisha. He did his schooling at Kendrapara up to higher secondary classes. After Completing BAMS from KATS Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Berhampur University, Ganjam, Odisha; he completed his MD [Ay], Rasa Shastra and Ph.D. Rasa Shastra from Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University in 2007 and 2010 respectively. Since then he has been engaged in teaching profession of Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya kalpana. He is having more than 12 years of teaching experiences of both Undergraduate and Post-graduate students. He has provided his service as Senior Resident in Faculty of Ayurveda, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University and Assistant Professor, Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya kalpana in A&U Tibbia College, Govt. of National Capital Territory, Delhi. During the last 12 years of his teaching 03 books and around 50 National and International research publications are in his credit. He is also the expert reviewer of many National and International journals. Currently he is working as Associate Professor, Post Graduate Department of Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana in Vaidya Yangya Dutt Sharma Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Khurj a, U.P.
Rasa Shastra is the practical subject requiring skill of medicine manufacturing. Now days, there is requiring for skilled Ayurveda scholar/practitioner with respect to skill of medicine manufacturing along with the knowledge of different practical problems, consequences during the medicine manufacturing etc. At the initial stage, BAMS students are taught and trained the practical approach of Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing in small scale at the pharmaceutical laboratory of different Ayurvedic institutions and colleges. To teach, as well to perform, the practicals of preparing Ayurvedic medicines needs the extensive, complete and systematic practical approach and knowledge regarding the raw materials to be used, features of fmal product and features of in between phases, to access the right way of working principle. There are so many text books written by eminent scholars on the subject, Rasa Shastra is available that enriches the learners with affluent knowledge of the subject. But for practical purpose, particularly for student community there is very less literature is available to guide step by step for doing practicals in the laboratory for small scale preparation and learning the consequences of the same.
With the aim of practical approach of the subject, this literature is prepared by explaining step by step of the practicals performed in the laboratory, very systematically. This book is also explains the possible consequences, precautions, reactions, adverse effects and their remedies etc. as available for the completeness of the book. In preamble of the book some fundamentals regarding the materials, dose, shelf life and guidelines how to do the practicals in the laboratory are explained in easy language. Color photographs of raw materials, processings and prepared medicines are given in the last of the book are is the hallmark of the book, are beneficial for the student to identify and perform with ease.
Along with the fulfillment of curriculum designed by CCIM, the book is supplemented with some common formulations with the aim to be beneficial for under graduate students, post graduate students of the subject along with the students of B.Pharm [Ay] and M.Pharm [Ay].
The materials collected from different sources like different Sanskirt verses, laws, rules and regulations, analytical procedures are duly acknowledged and tried to present in easy language and sentences for the convenience of understanding of students and necessary modifications are made keeping the sense intact.
