Book Description

Preface

In today's world, only the wealthy are in commanding positions. They define the trends for the future, from setting the political agenda to strategies for the Nation. It is because of their financial power that countries such as the USA, the UK are called 'developed' and are in a position to use pressure tactics to suppress other countries. It is for this reason that financial power is vital. But what if this financial power falls into the hands of the Jihadis who are hell bent on destroying the world? The reason for this present day fear is the rapid spread of the Halal economy throughout the world. Islamic Banking is founded on the Sharia law, and, therefore, many countries have prohibited it from commencing operations. However, because of consumer rights and the call for fanatical abidance by the religion, the Halal economy is seen to be growing.

Muslims have started demanding validation of every item and aspect as per Islam, meaning, every aspect should be Halal certified. Naturally, Halal Certification has become mandatory even in the Government organisations of secular India. Just because the minority community (of Muslims) that constitute merely 15% of the Indian population want to eat Islam-approved Halal meat, the remaining 85% are forced to eat Halal meat. Further, this Halal Certification is not merely limited to meat, but is also being applied to eatables, cosmetics, medicines, hospitals, malls, cooperative societies, tourism, etc.

Halal Certification has become compulsory for exporting to the Islamic Nations. Today, foreign multinationals such as McDonald's are selling 100% Halal certified products in Hindu majority India, and thus, insulting the sentiments of Hindu consumers. The Halal economy established through this process is getting stronger by the day, and in a very short period, has crossed US$ 2 Trillion.

Today, the Halal economy is being opposed openly and widely all over the world. The Australian Parliament alleged that the Halal economy is funding the increasing fanaticism in Australia and that it be banned. When religion is the foundation of an economy, it undeniably affects various systems in the country. Halal is a case of creating an economy based on the Sharia law, which will certainly affect the secular credentials of India. Hence, it is very important to investigate how it will affect the local traders, the traditional business community, the industrial houses, and eventually the Nation. It is time India sounds the warning bell. The Indian Government should conduct an in-depth inquiry into the earnings of organisations that issue Halal certificates. What is the need for private organisations to issue Halal certificates, when the Government of India has its own 'Food Safety and Standards Authority of India' (FSSAI) ?

Against this background, the purpose of compiling this Text is not to question or insult the religious sentiments or religious rights of a particular strata of society. No! It has been compiled to honour the rights of the majority 100 crore (1 Billion) Hindus, to apprise them of their consumer rights, and to caution about the peril in store for the Nation. I pray at the Holy feet of Shrikrushna - 'May the Hindu consumer awaken after reading this Text' !
