Human life is an unusual given not necessarily a gift; for which reason, it remains a riddle, to solve and help which, religions as well as God, have been created since most ancient times. They overwhelm human lives; and there is no escape.

But with science and education, things have started changing. A global world and culture is developing. Religion needs to respond to it actively and creatively. The book covers eight major religions of history, which include the three religions current in modern times-Christianity, Islam and Hinduism; as well as the two minor ones-Jainism and Sikhism; as well as the two major ones-Buddhism and Judaism-; and the almost destroyed one Zoroastrianism. Apart from a general description of each, they include samples of the prevalent scriptures, dotted with possible comparative notes here and there. Taken together, the work presents a distinguished panorama of the world religious scene.
