Hinduism is an old mystic faith, and the conception of God for a Hindu is the entirely of the universe. A Hindu, by contemplation and self-surrender, seeks to obtain unity or identity with the deity and believes in the spiritual apprehension of truths that are beyond understanding. There are a multitude of Gods is Hinduism and a Hindu worships with faith in the oneness of the Almighty that is represented in different forms. The gods of the Hindus is a book that highlights the different Gods that exist in the Hindu pantheon who have been worshipped for thousands of years and are worshipped today.

As the book explains, Hindu gods are manifestations of the One Supreme Being in different forms, A Hindu gets nearer to God when he given the God a shape and a form. God is all shapes and, for a Hindu, can be worshipped in any form. There are thirty-three crore and thirty lakh in Hinduism. This book is about the deities that are worshipped the most.

About the Author

Om Lata Bahadur, an ex-student of Sacred Heart Convent, Lahore, and Lady Irwin College, New Delhi, is a Housewife and a mother who has done a lot of welfare work for the wives of jawans of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police with whom she was in touch because her husband retired as the Director General of the force. She came to be an author when she was about sixty, and The Gods of the Hindus is her third publication. She is an expert on Hindu traditions and customs. Her first publication A Book of Hindu Festivals and Ceremonies was published in 1994 and, in its tenth print, it is still a bestseller. Her extensive knowledge of Hindu philosophy and mystic approach to life coupled with an absorption in the Ultimate Reality more than qualify her to write about Hindu gods.
